Phone: +61 3 9905 3484
Room: 219
Building: 35
Responsibilities: Combined/Double Degree Programs, Physics Liaison Committee
Interests: Radar, remote sensing, satellite communications, space physics, ionospheric radio propagation, ray tracing, waves in space plasmas, microwave propagation through rain, mathematical formulation of electromagnetic problems. Work is predominantly theoretical and carried out in collaboration with experimentalists based in Australia or overseas. A major current project is concerned with development of improved techniques of target location for use in the Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN). JORN, described as the "cornerstone of [Australia's] national defence" (Australian, 9/4/96) is a major national project. The Tasman International Geospace Environment Radar (TIGER) for geospace research is a collaborative project involving Australian scientists and the British Antarctic Survey. TIGER, will operate both as a stand-alone radar and as a component of the international SuperDARN network to investigate the interaction between the solar wind and the earth's atmosphere. There are may opportunities for research projects. Other areas of interest include the formation of radio ducts and the propagation of microwave radiation through rain, radar absorbing materials, and radar cross section calculations.
