Interests: As Director of the Centre for Telecommunications and Information Engineering he is responsible for all of its research and development activities. His background in parallel computer systems, their design, programming and application, extending back over 30 years is directly applicable to modern data communication networks. These networks are essentially large distributed computer systems with many of the latency, load balancing and locality problems associated with parallel computer systems. His more recent research has centered on distributed computing and communication issues associated with the relatively new area of unmanned autonomous vehicles (UAVs). This research is being conducted in the area of electrically powered airborne UAVs. This continues his overall interest in general parallel computing issues with an application driven focus.
