Motion Extraction from Video Sequences: Model Selection The extraction of motion from image sequences is useful for a wide variety of tasks: Video Coding, Computer Vision, Medical Image Analysis, Surveillance, etc.
Humanoid Robotics: This project aims to investigate and implement humanoid robots that (1) can achieve the following goals accept simple natural commands from a human operator - such as by voice, hand signals or even facial expressions and (2) convey information back via sound, facial expression, bodily motion, eye movement.
Fast Approximation of PDE Splines: PDE splines generalise the thin-plate splines. They try to "build more physics" into the modelling of data. Historical Film Processing: This work involves aspects of restoration and video coding of old films. The aim is to reduce or remove artefacts so that video coded versions (such as those to be made available and distributed through digital libraries) are of acceptable visual quality.
Optical Flow Calculation Optical Flow is the motion of objects on the image plane as objects (of the camera) moves. This has applications in robotics and in video coding technology.
